Maia Ashkenazi is a Fine Artist and Surface Designer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Her art practice focuses on mediums and techniques such as analog printmaking (monotype), paper collage, handmade stamps, and cut-out shapes from painted-paper.
She scans selected artworks to become surface designs for a variety of product applications, and utilizes digital collage techniques to create these designs.
"My artwork explores overlapping themes of resilience, human emotion and connection, and bridging nostalgia with modernity. In my practice, I combine monotype printmaking, paper collage, and mixed media. I utilize processes such as obscuring/masking, mark-making, and layering, and include both warm and cool hues, organic and geometric shapes, and both analog and digital tools.
I enjoy the interplay between emotion and logic, the natural and the constructed, intention vs chance, and traditional vs digital. My artwork is an invitation to be brave in your journey of self discovery, offering encouragement, hope, and a sense of possibility.
